Energy Star Certification. Only available for new homes. Energistics will evaluate building plans prior to construction and perform an insulation inspection (before drywall is hung) and a blower door test (after the home is complete). An Energy Star Certificate is then issued for the home.

Energy Smart Certification. Only available for existing homes. This evaluation includes:

• Insulation inspection of attic, basement and walls

• Heating and cooling efficiency examination

• A blower door test for air leakage

• An interview with the homeowner to inquire about known comfort problems

From there, opportunities for energy efficiency upgrades will be explained, and once repairs are complete, an Energy Smart Certificate will be issued for the home.

Energy Efficiency Evaluation. Available for existing homes. This evaluation includes the same elements as the Energy Smart Certificate; however, the home is not scored or assigned a rating.

Air Infiltration Test. This test looks at the number of air changes per hour that occur in a home using a blower door test. This test measures the amount and location of air that is infiltrating through gaps and cracks in the exterior shell of the home. Homeowners looking for the most cost-effective, do-it-yourself opportunities for energy savings will benefit most from this test.
